Infrared (IR) sauna is often described as a gentler Finnish sauna, but it uses a different technical principle: emitters heat surfaces and the body by radiation while the air remains cooler than in a conventional sauna.
IR is neither a weaker nor a better version of Finnish sauna. It is a different system, ritual and project choice.
Step 01What an IR sauna is — and is not
An infrared sauna uses electric emitters that heat surfaces and the body by radiation, while air temperature is generally lower than in a Finnish sauna. There is no heater with stones, löyly or controlled steam.
It is a different technical and sensory experience, not a “faster Finnish sauna” or a medical device. Its value lies in dry heat, emitter layout and straightforward control.

Step 02Emitters and design
Carbon, ceramic and full-spectrum systems are available. A spectrum label alone does not prove a better outcome; documented specifications, surface temperature, position relative to the body, controls, electrical protection and service support matter.
- Emitters are arranged around the back, sides and legs without accidental hot spots
- The control unit and sensors must match the selected system
- Ventilation, clearances and protective surfaces follow the manufacturer’s instructions
Step 03Who IR mode suits as a project choice
IR makes sense for a user who wants dry heat without stones and steam, prefers a lower air temperature, or has a space where a conventional heater is not the best choice. These are preference and project criteria, not diagnoses.
Lower air temperature does not automatically make IR suitable for children, pregnancy or a medical condition. KUBIQ does not prescribe age, duration or a medical regime; where risk exists, the decision belongs with a clinician.

Step 04A practical framework for use
- Start-up, warm-up and settings follow the installed system instructions
- Body position must match the emitter layout and required safety clearances
- There is no universal duration or daily frequency; discomfort, dizziness, pain or an unusual response mean stop
- Eye protection and permitted exposure depend on emitter type and the instructions for the selected equipment
Step 05Limits of health claims
KUBIQ does not present IR sauna as detox, weight-loss therapy, disease treatment, exercise replacement or a guaranteed pain-relief tool. Sweating is not the same as “removing toxins”, and a subjective sense of relief is not a universal medical outcome.
If IR sauna is included in rehabilitation or a sports programme, a qualified professional familiar with the user and programme should determine its use.
Step 06IR, Finnish or BIO
| Feature | Finnish | IR | BIO |
|---|---|---|---|
| Heat source | Heater and stones | IR emitters | Combi heater |
| Humidity | Intermittent löyly | No added steam | Controlled evaporation |
| Project focus | Heater, benches and ventilation | Emitter position and control | Combi system, water and maintenance |
No mode is universally better. Choose around the desired experience, space, utilities, maintenance and what the user will actually use.
Step 07What KUBIQ defines in the project
An IR sauna proposal should confirm electrical load, emitter model and position, controls, ventilation, safety clearances, service availability and finish materials. That is the project partner’s role: connecting equipment and space, not merely offering a cabin.
Step 08Next step
The choice between Finnish, BIO, IR and combined configurations follows the intended use and the technical conditions of the space.
